Steparu's Best of 2009 week is here! There are a lot of games that came out in the year 2009 that I have tested Open and Closed Beta. This list will contain mostly foreign online games with a mix of some games that are also out in English. Think you have missed a game in the year 2009 that was worth trying out? Check out Steparu's top three Best of 2009 Online games that's a must try, when you get the chance. Real Time Strategy Action Role Playing Games are really hard to come across, at least the decent ones. So this list will be a compilation of RTSARPG from all over the world. RTSARPG are basically a type of game where you join a small or big map and control one hero and dominate the other players base with your team, which usually consists of five players.
1st Place - Heroes of Newerth
With the permission of IceFrog the original maker of DOTA:Allstars, S2 Games has developed a new RTSARPG called Heroes of Newrth. This is one of those games that you should brace yourself and be prepared so that you don't get addicted to it. I've lost a lot of my time playing this game with friends, because playing one or two games isn't enough. The addiction is the same when I first started playing DOTA: Allstars. If I had to recommend a RTSARPG, Heroes of Newerth would be the one! It's still in Closed Beta testing, I am pretty sure you can find a bunch of keys floating around the net. They also offer free keys sometimes in their HoN facebook page. If you're looking to try out something similar to DotA then you can try out this game.

2nd Place - Land of Chaos
Land of Chaos would have to be my second pick, although the game got low review rating on it's first Closed Beta. It's got to be one of the best games I have played next to HoN in the year 2009. Maybe it's just the whole new aspect of playing a RTSARPG in TPS view that made me like this game more interesting. The unique type of characters and their skills are "Win" in this game, since most RTSARPG skills and characters are a bit similar to those that you see out there. I'm excited for the next Closed Beta session of both the Korean and European version.

3rd Place - League of Legends
By now most RTSARPG players know about League of Legends, HoN, and DotA. These are the more popular RTSARPG games in the West. Some of you may wonder why League of Legends is third place, well honestly it's either you like this game or HoN, or DotA. As for me, my current phase is strictly into HoN, even though I prefer the graphics of League of Legends. There are a lot of differences between the them all. League of Legends is more aggresive and require more teamplay. If you're looking to try out a completely new type of game aside from DotA and HoN then you should try out League of Legends.

4th Place - Avalon Heroes
Avalon Heroes is one of the more popular RTSARPG's in Korea. It's been out for awhile now in Korea, and will be available in Europe very soon. There are two game modes if I remember correctly, from the Korean version early last year. There was a PvE map where you can earn gold and some items, then the other map was PvP which is a bit similar to DotA, HoN, and LoL. Avalon Heroes is a bit more challenging to play at the start compared to any of the other games that I listed above, due to some of the items where you can render your character immune to magic (dispellable of course). Also when you use a return to town scroll you are invincible to all kinds of attacks, I didn't have any problems with though.

5th Place - DOTA: Allstars
DOTA: Allstars is probably the king of all RTSARPG. You are probably wondering why it's 5th on the list, well it's because this game has been out for many years now. If I didn't get bored playing it out so much, it would have probably remain in the top three. If you haven't heard of this game, then you probably won't know much or anything at all about RTSARPG types of games.

... i didn't know you played heroes of newerth too that so awesome i love how you ranked it first,its very addictive and lots of fun even more fun when you make friends, although the community needs a total change since everyone are arrogant all the time....i cant wait to see the different heroes in land of chaos i dont like playing the same heroes all the time so it would be nice to have some really interesting skills and characters |
